Calcasieu municipal library creates virtual library cards for students

Lake Charles, LA (KPLC) – The Calcasieu Parish Public Library and Calcasieu Parish School Board have announced a partnership to allow students to use their school ID card as a virtual library card.

Current students will be able to connect to the website of the public library of the parish of Calcasieu and access most of the online resources and services available to them. This includes services such as online tutoring and research assistance.

Parents and guardians will receive a letter from the library director through the school explaining how to use the student’s virtual card number. A student’s school librarian will be able to help if they are having difficulty connecting.

The library has also set up a special service landing page on their website to help students find resources that are relevant to them based on their age group.

Virtual cards can only be used to access online resources. If students want to view physical books, they can always request a physical library card which will give them access to everything the library has to offer.

In addition, the library now has four newly designed cards for students to choose their preferred design.

Physical library cards are free for anyone who lives, works, owns property or attends school in the parish of Calcasieu. These cards expire every two years, but renewing the card is completely free.
